2023-12-13-Virtual-ParentCamp

You asked and we listened, we were asked if we could hold Virtual ParentCamp at another time of the day.  Sometimes, evenings are hard for people to attend.  We will be holding a few Virtual ParentCamps this school year at noon ET/ 9 am PT.  We would love to hear your feedback at how this time of day works for you.  We are trying to be cognizant of all the time zones people join us from, which there are a lot!

We hope you have taken advantage of joining us on Mighty Networks, a platform to safely connect with other parents.  Some of you may have already joined us there and hope you are liking the new way to connect. For those of you who have not yet joined please watch the introductory video so you are more comfortable using it, it is pretty user friendly.  All RSVP’ing for Virtual ParentCamps will take place on Mighty Networks and that is where you will find the Zoom link to join.  We hope you like it as much as we do!

You will need to create an account on Mighty Networks the first time you register for an event.  You should be good to go after that.

You may also want to join the Virtual ParentCamp space in Mighty Networks to stay connected to those you have met to keep conversations going.

Virtual ParentCamp Community on Mighty Networks

Here we go!

Room 1 –  Nurturing yourself: The power of self care and compassion

Facilitator: Robin Sizemore, Social Emotional Learning Coordinator, Gary Community School Corporation (@GarySchools) Indiana

We sometimes forget to nurture ourselves as we care and provide for our children and families. Join Robin in this room as we talk about why self care and compassion is so important to enable us to continue to be the champions we already are.

Robin has several years of experience.  She is a firm believer of Maslow before Blooms, mental health over test scores and people over programs. Robin worked as a public school teacher for over 25 years before starting in her current role. She is actively involved in her local community and helps people gain confidence to learn and try new things.

Room 2 – Cultivating community and ongoing engagement and shared values

Facilitator: Cam F Awesome (@CamFAwesome), Awesome Talks

We are thrilled to have Cam back and fresh off the release of his new book, Becoming Awesome – How to Make Success Inevitable.  Congratulations Cam!  Pick up your copy today!

Communication will always be the number one key to building trust and relationships.  In this room we will discuss how we can continue to develop our relationships and how communication can help us achieve shared values for our children.

Cam F Awesome is a multi-time National Champion Heavyweight Olympic Boxer that hung up the gloves and pick up a microphone as a motivational speaker. Cam speaks on Resilience, Gratitude and Cultural Acceptance. Cam is a 6 time USA National Champion, 4 time Golden Gloves National Champion, 2 Time Olympic Trials Champion  Heavyweight boxer, and former Captain of the USA National boxing team.

Room 3 Navigating parenthood: Finding harmony as a parent

Facilitator: Diane Smith, Health Teacher, Las Americas ASPIRA Academy, Delaware

Parenting can be tough, but you are not alone. Join this room as we discuss ways we can handle the ongoing conflicts of being a parent.  Each day is a learning curve but together we can find approaches to help find our way.

Diane Smith has many years experience as an educator. She has worked with different age groups K-12. She is passionate about her work with young children and loves to see them grow.  Diane herself is a parent and proud grandparent.  She loves to empower others to be the best they can be.

Room 4 – Turning your disabilities into abilities-  Keep shining

Facilitator: Angela Masden, Owner of Rose Dove Consulting/Parent Warrior, Kentucky

Not all disabilities can be seen. And parents of children with invisible disabilities know how difficult it can be to manage others’ attitudes surrounding our loved ones.  In this room learn how we can be the best advocates for our children and help them shine.

Angela describes herself as a community change maker serving youths, adults and families. Angela has many years experience working with young children and their families. She is passionate about breaking down barriers and helping individuals to successfully navigate challenges to meet their individual goals. She really is a superwoman and parent warrior.
