2026-04-22 Sussex Montessori ParentCamp Kids with Ms Peggy

There’s something special that happens when families and educators come together with a shared purpose—and at Sussex Montessori’s ParentCamp on April 22, that purpose was clear: helping our kids grow as readers and learners, together.

From the moment conversations began, the room was filled with connection, honesty, and a real sense of community. Parents shared how meaningful it was to connect with others navigating the same stage of life—raising children, supporting literacy, and figuring out how best to help at home.

One parent shared they were grateful for the “connection with other parents that value our children’s literacy,” while another appreciated “hearing views and opinions from parents” and “meeting new people and hearing new ideas.” That exchange of perspectives is what makes ParentCamp so powerful—real conversations, real experiences, and real support.

A theme that came through loud and clear was the importance of fostering a love for reading. Families valued the practical tips shared by educators and other parents and the encouragement to keep reading at home. There was appreciation for the insight into how teachers are preparing students—not just for state testing, but for lifelong learning.

What stood out just as much was the authenticity in the room. Parents openly shared struggles, asked questions, and leaned into the idea that they are not alone in this journey. That kind of vulnerability creates space for growth—and it’s where real partnerships begin.

As one reflection captured, ParentCamp met important needs: belonging, communication, support, authenticity, and being seen. And you could feel that in every conversation.

Turning Conversations into Action

Families left with clear next steps, including:

  • Incorporating more reading into everyday routines

  • Reading together nightly and focusing on comprehension

  • Asking deeper questions about what their children are reading

  • Even starting family “book clubs” by reading the same books together

These aren’t just ideas—they’re meaningful shifts that will make a difference at home.

A Shared Commitment

One of the most meaningful takeaways was seeing how much families want to support their children’s reading journey. Sussex Montessori is intentionally creating space for parents to be part of that work, building a true partnership between home and school.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to continue this work together in the 2026–2027 school year. Upcoming Sussex Montessori ParentCamp dates are:

  • October 2026

  • December 2026

  • February 2027

  • April 2027

As we look ahead, we want to share:

“We are so excited to continue growing this partnership—Sussex Montessori being part of the ParentCamp family means more opportunities to connect, listen, and support one another in ways that truly impact our kids.”

Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to the Delaware Department of Education for their continued support of ParentCamp and Family-School-Community engagement across Delaware.

How You Can Help

As we plan for next year’s four ParentCamps, Sussex Montessori would greatly appreciate donations to support food and door prizes. These small touches make a big difference in creating a welcoming environment for families. If you’re able to contribute, please know that no donation is too small.

ParentCamp continues to remind us that when we come together—families, educators, and community—we create something powerful. And at Sussex Montessori, that power is helping our kids not just learn to read, but to love reading.
