There’s something powerful that happens when people feel safe enough to be real—and that’s exactly what we experienced at Thomas Edison ParentCamp.

This wasn’t just another event. It was a space where families showed up with honesty, courage, and a shared commitment to doing better—for themselves and for their children.

Throughout the evening, parents opened up about their journeys. They talked about breaking generational cycles, navigating financial challenges, and finding ways to create new opportunities for their kids. There was no judgment—just listening, understanding, and support.

One participant captured it perfectly: “I’m grateful for everyone sharing their struggles and being honest and so thoughtful of their words.”

That honesty created connection.

Another shared, “The amount of insight that I got from each individual who spoke was so vital… although we have different backgrounds we all could relate.” That’s what makes ParentCamp so special—different stories, but so many shared experiences.

The word that came up again and again? Community.

From “We had a great time conversing and just gaining some encouragement from everyone” to “The connections that were made. I like the open dialogue between attendees,” it was clear that this night meant something deeper.

And it wasn’t just meaningful—it was motivating.

Families left with real action steps:

  • Start budgeting

  • Learn more about investing and finances

  • Stay consistent

  • Keep showing up

  • Make sure my children get the education and knowledge that I didn’t have

  • Maybe one day I’ll host a session

That’s the ripple effect—when people feel heard and supported, they move forward with purpose.

Mentimeter responses showed that ParentCamp met core human needs:

Connection. Belonging. Being heard. Trust. Empathy. Hope.

One parent shared they felt “not alone, heard, comforted, and guided.” Another highlighted “freedom, non-judgment, and expression.” These aren’t small things—these are the foundations of strong families and strong communities.

Personally, I walked away inspired. The strength, honesty, and commitment of these families—it stays with you. It’s a reminder that when we create space for real conversation, incredible things can happen.

Thank you to everyone who made the night so meaningful. And thank you to the Delaware Department of Education for supporting this work and helping bring families, schools, and communities together.
