Here we go!

Room 1  [Connect] – Exploring Careers through the Lens of Your Strengths

Facilitator:  Facilitator:  Armando Garza, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, YouScience (@You_Science)

Armando joins us back on Virtual ParentCamp this week.  The YouScience platform has been brought up in a number of sessions over the past few months, so we thought we would bring Armando back.  If your kids or even you have not explored this platform, it is a great way to explore your skills and strengths, be matched up to careers and then explore those careers.  It is a great tool.

What is YouScience?

YouScience Profile is an aptitude-based career guidance tool. The program uses a series 11 of engaging exercises or ‘brain games’ to measure the 9 aptitudes most important to career choice as well as interest. The brain games are timed, ranging from 5 to 12 minutes each, and totaling 90 minutes. You may log out at any point between exercises and resume at a later time; in fact, users are encouraged to complete their brain games in multiple sittings for the best overall experience. The exercises are intended to be challenging to help capture your true areas of highest potential. The brain games must be completed on a computer. Your results will be ready 12 hours after you complete your exercises and can be viewed via computer or mobile device. The results include a review of your strengths, suggested careers that best fit your aptitudes and interests, and detailed information on over 500 careers including a personal fit analysis, job responsibilities, salaries, job forecasts, and educational pathways.

ParentCamp would like to thank YouScience for their partnership!  YouScience has generously given ParentCamp a non-profit account so that if any of our participants or their children would like to use the program, you can just email Julie or Laura at julie@parentcamp.org or laura@parentcamp.org for an account.

Room 2 [Strengthen] – High Engagement After School Virtual Clubs

Facilitator:  Tonya Sharp (@sharpscience1), Middle School Science Teacher, St. Joseph District Virtual Academy

If you think kids can’t be engaged virtually, think AGAIN!  Tonya is doing amazing things with virtual after school clubs and the kids love it!  They are having HUGE participation and it keeps growing!

Tonya Sharp is a veteran middle school science teacher-leader who is currently teaching at the newly founded SJSD Virtual Academy. Her mission to build relationships with students, staff and the community to provide innovative opportunities for students to thrive in the virtual learning environment.

In this session, we will discuss and brainstorm ways to reach students and families through a virtual club experience. We will take a look at a newly developed program designed to promote more social interaction with our virtual students. We will explore how virtual clubs have evolved over the last two months into student leadership opportunities.

Room 3 [Strengthen] – The Craft of Advocacy

Penny is a  mom, wife, and unapologetic public education advocate. Takes great pride in empowering families to be strong voices for their children.

Everyone has a story. For most of us, this is how our advocacy journey begins. Think of your story, bring it with you, and let’s make it your WHY!
