We have missed you! We hope you all have taken some time for family and self-care! ParentCamp, 2016-2021, All Rights Reserved

End of the school year seemed almost busier than usual, hopefully everyone is into summer mode with a little relaxing and spending time with family.  We are excited to be back after a month break!

Virtual ParentCamp is an opportunity for each and everyone of us to have an affect on our children, bloodline or not, children for generations to come.  And all it costs is one hour of time every other week because ParentCamps are ALWAYS FREE to attend.  We guarantee it will be the fastest hour of our week because you will enjoy it that much!

Registration is open now!  https://www.parentcamp.org/event/2021-06-30-vpc/.

Room 1  [Connect & Strengthen] – Embracing Emotional Literacy at Home and School

Facilitator:  Dr. Emily Howell (@howells_owls), Consultant, UMKC Regional Professional Development Center

Emily is back with us this week.  She is continuing the Emotional Literacy series and this week the focus will be on using it at home and school.

Dr. Emily Howell is an educational consultant and former teacher and administrator with over 16 years in the profession. Her greatest passion in education is creating spaces where all students have what they need in order to learn and be successful in life inside and outside of school. Her work as a consultant and educational leader is in supporting teachers and systems to facilitate those practices and environments.

Room 2 [Connect & Strengthen] – Privilege:  What is it and what do I do with it?

Facilitator:  Cam F Awesome (@camfawesome), Diversity & Inclusion Consultant

Cam is back with us this week and will be leading a discussion around privilege.  Cam is great about helping us be very reflective and also opening our eyes to other people’s perspectives and lenses.

Cam is an Emmy Nominated, 6 time USA National Champion, 4 time Golden Gloves National Champion, 2 Time Olympic Trials Champion  Heavyweight boxer, and former Captain of the USA National boxing team. Cam Awesome is also a proud Member of the National Speakers Association.  Cam is a diversity consultant whose overall goal is to address “the elephant in the room” in a way to create change, not place blame.

Take a listen to Cam’s video after our last Virtual ParentCamp

Room 3 [Connect & Collaborate] – Harvard Family Engagement Course Series:  Designing Family Engagement with Dual-Capacity-Building Framework

Facilitator:  Larry Holladay, Parent Advocate, Prichard Committee (@prichardcom), KY CIPL Fellow (@KYCIPL), 2020 Beverly Nickel Raimondo Parent Leader Award Winner

Family school engagement can be much more than parents attending regular teacher parent meetings.  In this room we’ll entertain the fourth discussion in a series looking at research based methods for engaging parents more fully to create improved outcomes for children.  These two articles provide background for the discussion topics.
