Looks like we are going to have an Empowering Kind of Week on Virtual ParentCamp!

Virtual ParentCamp Logo

Can you believe it?!  March Madness has started, clocks have sprung forward and the first day of spring is upon us!  The first day of spring is bittersweet for me, it is usually my mom’s birthday and she passed away in 2014 from Alzheimers/dementia.  I smile when I see the tulips and daffodils start to peak through the ground and think of her.

So who is ready for a Virtual ParentCamp?  We had to take a little break again, we have been out traveling, training schools and supporting them along their ParentCamp journeys.  Looks like we are going to be very busy in May with all of them coming to fruition!  So exciting!

Registration is open now for Wednesday, March 23rd’s Virtual ParentCamp.  Join us from 8 pm ET/5 pm PT to 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.  Registration will turn off at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT. We tried the Zoom registration process the last time and it just didn’t work for us, so we are going back to our previous registration system.

So here we go!  Gosh, after reading the session titles and descriptions, we really should call this “Empower Week” on ParentCamp.

Room-2-Safe-to-Soaring

Room 2 [Connect & Strengthen] – From Safe to Soaring:  What Helps a Girl to Feel Safe Enough to Go after Her Dreams

Facilitator:  Regina Loiko (@rloiko08), Guide for Girl Guides, Cleveland, OH

Let’s explore generating that deep down feeling of safe, safe that at first cocoons a girl in a soft blanket and then empowers her to turn that blanket into butterfly wings.

Girls are amazing. Regina uses leadership development tools and techniques with girls and their guides (mom, grandma, big sis…) to erase self-doubt and go after their dreams.

Room-3-MLL-Families

Room 3 [Connect] – Inviting our MLL (Multiple Language Learners) to the FSCE (Family School Community Engagement) Table

Facilitator:  Dr. Geniene Piche (@geniened), Director of Language Learners, Boone County Schools (@Boone_County), Walton, KY
Facilitator:  Theresa Cruz, Hispanic Family Engagement Coordinator, Learning Grove (@learning_grove), Burlington, KY

When you are planning family engagement activities, are you REALLY being inclusive of your MLL families?  Do they have a voice at the table?  Are you collaborating and providing opportunities for them to contribute.  Join Geniene and Theresa in this great discussion about empowering our MLL families in our school districts.

Geniene is committed to “Equity in education”. She serves on the district DEI committee, mentor for KEDC, President of Kentucky Coalition for English Learners.

Theresa Cruz can be found anywhere in northern Kentucky that involves empowering Hispanic families.  She is passionate and is a person of action.
