Julie and Laura join Phyl Macomber on Every Child Can Learn Ep. 16 Podcast

Julie Pile and Laura Gilchrist had a wonderful time being invited back to be special guests on the sixteenth episode of Every Child Can Learn by Phyl Macomber. Phyl Macomber also has a website called T.H.E P.A.C.T which stands for Technology Helps Easy and Practical Accessible Curriculum Teaching. We would like to thank Phyl Macomber and Neal for inviting us back to discuss how families could better communicate with teachers and staff.  The last episode focused on how teachers and staff could better communicate and build trust with families. Julie and Laura gave insights on how teaching staff could improve their communication with families through certain tools. Specifically, they mentioned Loom and Voxer. In this episode, Phyl focused on how families could build trust and communicate better with the teaching staff.

Phyl highlights that when teaching staff and parents work together it makes a positive learning environment for students. Phyl also notes that parents bring a different perspective to the table that enriches learning experiences. Which led Phyl to ask Julie and Laura “what are effective ways parents can communicate with teaching staff ”.  As you know with the pandemic, we have been moving a lot back and forth between virtual and in-person learning, sometimes hybrid learning. Which has essentially made communication solely between emails and letters. Julie and Laura both feel that you don’t get the voice tone connotations and body language this way. So, they share some tools they use as a parent and educator to communicate effectively. Julie shares an app called Voxer.  Voxer is a walkie-talkie app where you can type messages out, record verbal messages, add photos, and many other things. Julie also shares that parents and teachers can use recorded messages, telephone calls, or even a facetime platform to communicate with teaching staff.  While Laura shares a website called Loom. Loom is a platform that teachers or parents can use to record messages. One thing about Loom is that you can just record your voice or you can record messages with your camera on. Laura mentions that instead of using loom, families can use their cameras on their phones to record videos that they can just send. Or they can use the voice memo app on their phones to record their voice messages and send them that way. This episode of Every Child Can Learn is focused on how parents can effectively communicate to build a better relationship with their teachers. This will significantly enrich their child’s education and have a better chance of the child developing a lifetime love of learning.
